Smart agriculture: monitoring and automation for highly efficient greenhouses in Sicily

A major vegetable farm in Sicily was seeking a solution to optimize the management of its production greenhouses, with the aim of improving yields and reducing the consumption of water, energy, and chemicals. Activities were handled manually, without any integrated view of environmental and agronomic data, making it difficult to calculate optimal irrigation and microclimate conditions.

Solution

We implemented our advanced CMD monitoring and automation system, based on a network of environmental and soil sensors. These sensors continuously detect:

the main air parameters (temperature, humidity, pressure, CO₂ concentration);

key soil agronomic values, such as temperature, humidity, electrical conductivity, ph.

All data are processed in real time to provide precise indications regarding when and how much to irrigate, how much fertilizer is needed, and more. This ensures efficient use of water resources and an optimal balance for crop growth. The system also automatically manages the opening and closing of greenhouse windows, ventilation, cooling and heating systems, adjusting internal conditions according to both collected data and weather forecasts.

This solution allowed the farm to:

increase crop productivity,

reduce the consumption of water, energy and chemicals,

enhance the environmental sustainability of the entire production cycle.

The result is a smart, autonomous greenhouse that combines technological innovation with sustainable agriculture, offering more efficient, responsible and profitable production.

Conclusions

Next-generation agriculture is based on knowledge and control: precise data for healthier, more sustainable and more productive crops. Thanks to our CMD monitoring and automation solution, every farm can become a model of digital efficiency and environmental protection-.
