Smart integration of construction-site systems in a dam building project

A major dam construction site located in an area with high hydrogeological risk needed an integrated system to monitor and coordinate the various stages of concrete production and placement. The goal was to ensure efficiency, traceability, and operational safety, while minimizing errors and improving the control of material quality.

Solution

We designed and implemented a smart monitoring and integration system through our CMD platform. This system collects and analyzes real-time data coming from the construction site’s main production facilities:

Crusher to control the production of aggregates employed in the concrete mix;

Vehicles weighing system to monitor loads destined for the concrete batching plant;

Integrated concrete batching plant to verify the correct concrete mix composition;

Distribution cranes to control and optimize transport and placement operations.

A complete weather station was also integrated into the system. It measures temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, and rainfall, which are essential parameters for ensuring both production quality and safety on-site. Data are centralized and displayed on our CMD digital supervision platform, enabling site supervisors to monitor the status of operations and verify conformity with the expected technical parameters in real time.

For example, the system checks that concrete remains at a temperature of 15°C during distribution, and ensures complete production traceability. Additional weather stations provide preventive monitoring of weather conditions, so that flood risks can be promptly signaled and alarm and safety procedures are automatically activated.

This creates a fully digital ecosystem that brings together control, safety, and innovation, enabling the completion of works to the highest standards of quality, environmental protection and safety.

Conclusions

Managing complex infrastructure requires the smart coordination of information, personnel, and equipment distributed across large areas. Continuous monitoring ensures safety, reliability, and sustainability, supporting the completion and management of works in a more controlled and informed way.
