Integrated monitoring of extrusion processes

A company specialized in plastic recovery and recycling needed to comprehensively monitor extrusion processes, with the objective of optimizing energy consumption and ensuring the quality of regenerated material, in addition to operator safety.

Solution

We have developed, through our CMD platform, an integrated monitoring system capable of collecting and analyzing real-time data from multiple points in the plant:

Integration with the die, to acquire process parameters related to plastic material processing;

Monitoring of electrical consumption, through a dedicated meter installed in the power panel;

Detection of water consumption, through a flow meter that measures the water used in the finished product washing phases;

Temperature control of extruded material inside big bags, during finished product discharge from the die, using a thermal camera, useful for automatically verifying potential hazardous conditions due to overheating.

All data is aggregated and displayed on a customized dashboard, which allows personnel to monitor the process status in real time and receive automatic notifications in case of deviations from expected values. Thanks to this system, the company was able to reduce energy consumption, optimize process times, and improve finished product quality, making its production cycle more efficient and sustainable.

Conclusions

Monitoring production processes represents the first step toward truly connected and aware production. Through data collection and analysis, every plant can evolve into an intelligent system, capable of anticipating critical issues, optimizing resources, and continuously improving product quality.
